Ake Unsgaard from Sweden 

My love to Opel P1. (as a short story)

  I was born in october 1957 (!)

At that time my father drove a motorbike 175cc.

In 1961 he bought himself his first car ; a Opel Rekord –54,

Look at picture , I’m the boy at the right.

In december 1964 we went to a cardealer, and to my surprice we left the –54

and got a 1700 –60, bermudagreen with a white roof. I still remember the feeling

of larger windows in the 60 compared to the 54, and a bigger car. So beautiful.

Every summer we went south to my grandparents in Germany.

They lived in Dassel, 12km from Einbeck. We always made a stop halfways

on a hotel in Schleswig. See picture . The car never let us down! I really loved it.

My father kept the P1 until one week after I got the drivers licens. Then he got a –69, but

that is a different story. So I could drive the car for one (1 ! ) week.

After a couple of years (1983) I got the opportunity to realize a dream and bought a P1

for myself, see picture before  and after

But as for so many car-freeks one is not enough and I remembered the delivery-caravans I

saw every summer in Denmark when we went for Germany, they really thrilled me.

So as I heard that a friend knew of a brush-painted Caravan –59 with a 1700 engine,

from a P2 coupé, and not that much rust. Picture 

Now I had to get my wife to understand .

She was expecting our first son.

Eastern 1990 he got the new paint.

I told you about Dassel 12km from Einbeck. In Einbeck they brew a famous beer since

600 years ago and that was the beer my father and grandfather drunk every summer so.

I had to get a set of stickers to put on my delivery.

But I live in a quite small town, very religious and people on the street ment I just drove

my car to promote sinful drinking, not that it was a beautiful car.

So I removed them.
