I’m writing this e-mail on behalf of
my uncle whose story with his P1 is
remarkable and rare.
The 1958 P1 you see in attached
photos was bought by my grandfather
for his daughter (my late mother) in
1959, brand new. She drove it for a
few years then, shortly after
getting married, sold it to her
brother (my uncle) in 1963.
My uncle developed a passion for
this car with time. Year after year,
he became more attached to it. He
still owns it till present date, did
not own any other car for over 47
years, and does not even know how to
drive another car. His wife and
children often put pressure on him
to replace it or buy another “more
practical” car but he always
refused. It’s difficult to find
devoted people like my uncle these
days.
He still drives it and takes care
of it, looking everywhere for spare
parts and keeping it almost new. He
always says that other cars
breakdown, but this one does not.
Finding the spares became difficult
now in Lebanon so I volunteered to
get him whatever he needs from
abroad in appreciation of his
devotion and perseverance. Since it
was my mother’s first and only owned
car, this gives me another reason to
keep the car in the best shape. My
childhood memories while riding this
car with my uncle are unforgettable.
I came across your website while I
was searching for some parts. I felt
I should register his car because he
really deserves being heard of.
Apologies for the quality of the
photos as they were taken in 1981. I
will take better photos when I go
back to Lebanon next summer because
I’m currently working in the United
Arab Emirates.
I have inherited many of my uncle’s
qualities. I bought a 1971 442 back
in 1980 (http://sites.google.com/site/aljisr)
and will never sell it, for it will
become the property of my son.
People tell me that my uncle’s “old
car syndrome” runs in my blood, and
I guess it’s true.
Hope you will find that my uncle (Riad
Mawas) and his P1 are qualified for
being registered in your website,
and congratulations for the massive
effort you have personally put to
make the website so attractive and
rich.
Regards,
Muhammad Aljisr
