Hi,
For some strange reason tonight, I punched in Opel Record to see if there
were any pictures of the old car my parents owned in 1962-65 and behold
there were. I thought I would never see this car again as it was a very rare
car for my parents to own. Even in Ann Arbor, Michigan where it was common
for people to own strange foreign cars. It was one of the few cars they
bought new and I remember having a slight accident in ours as there were no
seat belts ( and no one wore them anyway). My mom slammed on the brakes and
I went flying into the wind shield and cracked it. I was fine, though.
Thanks for your site, it brings back memories of my very younger days. It
was sort of a neat tidy little car and my mom had to recall her skills in
manual transmissions if I remember correctly
You made me go
on a hunt for that picture, but I found it! It was in the last batch of pictures
buried deep in a file cabinet that I had forgotten about. Funny I remembered the
picture. The date on it is May 1964 and my sister remembers piling a bunch of
people in that car (more than you thought it could hold) and going off to see
4th of July fireworks. In that picture, I'm about 9 years old about ready to
enter the fourth grade in school. It could have been that summer that I bumped
my head, but the picture was taken prior to the little accident I had with the
windshield. I also remember my parents selling it for $100 to a couple who
needed a car desperately. Of course, the dear old Opel is long gone now. Wish I
could find one to bop around town in the summer. Would be fun ; ).
